New Service Learning Study Abroad Programs in Stellenbosch, South Africa

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) July 16, 2008 -- Last week CEA launched its 27th destination for study abroad in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In addition to a more traditional study abroad program, CEA is featuring a Service Learning and Community Development program.

The Service Learning and Community Development program (http://www.gowithcea.com/programs/south_africa/stellenbosch/2185/overview.html) provides a hands-on approach to students who have a strong interest in theoretical elements and currents issues impacting community life in South Africa. The service learning component of the program places students at a variety of community sites according to the student's qualifications, academic background and interests. The placement sites cover a variety of social issues including, but not limited to, Education, Art and Music Programs, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Youth Development Programs, Nursing, and Entrepreneurship development. Regardless of the placement site's mission, students participating in the program will be actively involved in community development.

In addition, CEA in Stellenbosch also offers South Africa Studies. (http://www.gowithcea.com/programs/south_africa/stellenbosch/2186/overview.html) This program is a more traditional approach to study abroad, offering a variety of historically rich and relevant current issues courses. With this program students can study Afrikaans Language and Literature; Economic and Developmental Problems in Africa; Politics and Cultural Change in South Africa; South African Photography and much more!

Students will study at Stellenbosch University, one of South Africa's leading universities for which the town is known. With just under 100,000 locals in this college town, students will be able to fully immerse themselves in the culture of Stellenbosch. Martina Barth, Development Manager at CEA believes that, "this experience will undoubtedly leave students with a deeper understanding of the history, cultural, social problems and resolutions facing South Africa and Africa today".

South Africa is known for its luscious countryside and Mediterranean-type climate, which makes it an ideal study abroad destination. With an array of unspoiled beaches, diverse ecosystems and indigenous forests, students will have ample opportunity to enjoy nature and the local culture of South Africa outside the classroom as well.

Namibia Casinos
The number of Namibia's casinos is likely to increase markedly in the years to come. For the past ten years, since recently after the country gained true independence (it was ruled by a South African backed regime for a long time) until now, there has been a ban on the issuance of new casino licenses. In fact, the hunger for more licenses was such that at least one official from the licensing board was able to, for a short time at least, greatly boost his salary by offering fake licenses until he was discovered, however. The end result seems to have been that from May 2006 the Government has done the sensible thing. If people are willing to pay for the right to set up Namibia's casinos, it seems only sensible that the Namibian Government, r...
