Namibia's First National Hoodia Conference a Great Success
(PRWEB) March 7, 2007 -- Hoodia Gordonii is the hottest, natural product to hit the western appetite suppressant industry, which saw the first Namibian National Hoodia Conference take place on February 22nd and 23rd, 2007 with great success.
Hoodia grows naturally and legally only in Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe but until this year the only market to open has been South Africa. Namibia is getting ready to open their market later in 2007, but don't go running off to Namibia to buy your hoodia yet. Governing agencies and the farmers are working hand in hand to coordinate all aspects of their market to ensure it is a coordinated effort for everyone involved.
The Namibian Hoodia Conference, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), is aimed at developing a national strategic plan that will address resource management, protection, research, cultivation, marketing and trade of hoodia.
Speakers from the MET, CITES, conservation and botanists, farmers of wild and cultivated hoodia crops, and national associations were well represented. The conference was clearly organized and well structured.
Jen Cully, President and Public Relations Director for Millennium Health Supplements (Canada) Inc., was invited to speak at the first Namibia Hoodia Conference to provide a global market overview and a buyer's perspective. Cully says, "It was both exciting to be a part of and a pleasure to see government officials, farmers and competitors working in concert to significantly contribute to their national economy and to the rural development of Namibia in particular."
"We couldn't believe the teamwork and effort that went into weaving all of the agencies and farmers together into a well-orchestrated and well-oiled machine that will surely be a great market for all of us to work in. We very much appreciate that Namibia has taken the time to build their structure and put protocols in place well before they open for business. Their dedication and commitment to opening a stable market for the hoodia supply industry is of the utmost importance and the Namibians clearly recognize the value of having all procedures in place before they do."
Cully will be working directly with governing bodies, conservationists, associations and farmers to ready the Namibian market for their debut onto the global stage. She comments that "Namibia is a breathtaking country filled with wonderfully accommodating and hospitable people, ancient history and a land that for the most part is unpopulated and undiscovered by western tourism. My travels there will stay with me forever and I will always have a place in my heart for this magnificent country with the Namib Desert's thousands of miles of red dunes, spectacular beaches and sweeping vistas. Their attention to conservation is unrivaled by even the most industrialized nations and they are a proud and dignified people.
We are looking forward to working in conjunction with Namibian and South African farmers to make hoodia supply from these important markets a sustainable, reliable and consistent source for the world's purest Hoodia Gordonii."
Jen Cully and Millennium Health Supplements would like to extend their gratitude to the Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism for their invitation and warm hospitality and we wish the Namibians a great and prosperous future in their emerging herbal market.
